Perspective!

This morning, with my county’s “stay at home” order in place, I was enjoying a few moments of reflection, gazing out my home office window. My winter-weary soul drank in the new, green life budding on everything my eyes touched.

New Life Budding

The promise of beautiful life yet to come.

New Life Promise

Then tears built in my eyes as I thought of the coronavirus, named COVID-19, rampaging around the world, stealing precious life. I thought of our economy, and the individuals and businesses struggling to hang on in the midst of all the stay-at-home orders. Sadness enveloped me, fear began to grow in the hollow of my stomach.

With tears flowing over, I stared out the window again. The beautiful, bright green buds bursting forth on the trees, broke through my heartache and tears. I felt the sun’s warmth on my arms, shining through the window from the bright, blue sky. And thankfulness bloomed in my heart for this promise I heard whisper through my soul – this virus will not last forever. Life will bud and bloom.

New Life Will Bud and Bloom
Beautiful New Life!

As I took in the budding, green landscape, my eyes fell on this little, jolting piece of an imp, just hanging out on the tree just outside my right window, staring into the window right at me!

Just Hangin Out

Ha! When I got over my fright, I laughed out loud! This little dude was just hanging out on that tiny branch, nonchalantly watching me through that window. Taking it all in. With no fear.

Perspective!

What perspective this little imp brought. What perspective I felt him impart to me.

Take time to appreciate the beauty around you, being thankful for what you have. Acknowledge in your heart those who need your prayers and be diligent to feel and pray for them. Do whatever you can to help them and to make a difference in the lives around you.

But don’t let the sorrows of the world bring you down into discouragement. Know that there is hope. There will be new life springing forth, even in the midst of a dark season. Just like this cute, little squirrel found the one tiny branch on this tree to hold him, you can also find a tiny branch of hope to hold you.

Seek it.

Find it.

Step out onto it.

And hold on to the hope it gives. And once you get your balance, share that hope with those around you.

And lastly, take time out to laugh out loud – it is such good medicine for your soul!

A cheerful heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit makes one sick. Proverbs 17:22

Perspective

“Behold, I will do something new,
Now it will spring forth;
Will you not be aware of it?
I will even make a roadway in the wilderness,
Rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19

“For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand,
Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’ Isaiah 41:13

  1. Mindy, I love this post! What a beautiful reminder during this time of heartache. Your words are an encouragement and healing balm in this time of uncertainty. Thank you!

You’re absolutely right – it’s important to remember this won’t last always. New life is all around us. Our perspective really can take us from dark to the dawn of a new day. We should absolutely pray, yes. There are so many hurting all around us. But you said it so beautifully: “But don’t let the sorrows of the world bring you down into discouragement.”

Thank you for this amazing post, Mindy. I’ve shared. All my love to you sweet sister! ♥

  2. Happy & Blessed Holy Week to you as well, Mindy. It’s always a blessing coming here to read your words and hear your heart. You are a blessing and an encouragement always. God has given you a precious gift of wisdom and a teaching spirit that easily shares His messages of hope and love. Thank you!

I smiled when you said my words touched you. I couldn’t ask for anything more than that!

Isn’t it amazing how God works — sending us those little signals of “I’m right here” when we need them the most? It’s His way of grabbing our attention away from what weighs our hearts and minds down. It’s those subtle blessings only a loving Father who knows us so intimately could provide. Sometimes in life we have to look for them. Others, just like this precious squirrel (who is adorable by the way!), shows up and so clearly demonstrates how deeply loved and cared for we are.

I love that you laughed, because God laughs and so should we! Oh! And Jet — I’m in love! Tuxes are my favorite. That photo of the squirrel and him “social distancing” is the very best! 😀
