Pour Over Me

What is your #1 goal as a Christian today?

I find that my #1 goal, and one I have to work at every day, is to become more like Jesus and to exemplify his characteristics in my daily living. Some days are definitely harder than others. What about you, do you strive for this goal? And in striving to meet this goal, what is it, exactly, that we need to do?

Well, simply put, to become more like Jesus and to exemplify his characteristics, we have to let loose of the characteristics or desires in our heart that don’t match up with his, right? Yes, easy to say but oh-so-hard to do! And for sure, some things are more difficult than others to let go.

And then there are the things we don’t WANT to let go, such as that ultra destructive relationship we keep hanging on to. Or for me, my terrible vanity! (Yes, that was hard to admit.) Or overindulging in food or drink. For me, this means sweets! How about you?

And then there are the things we let go over and over, but somehow keep picking right back up. Like our low self esteem or the hurt we feel over something negative someone said or did. Verbal, emotional, physical – ugh! These hurts are so hard to let go!

This morning, I stand in front of the mirror, feeding my out-of-control vanity (ugghh!) as I ready for the day, singing along with my christian music playlist. Lauren Daigle’s song, “Once And For All” comes on. The emotion wrought words catch me off-guard and then hit home – hard. My heart begins to soften. I press replay and listen. My eyes close and the words pour over me.

God I give You all I can today
These scattered ashes that I hid away
I lay them all at Your feet

From the corners of my deepest shame
The empty places where I’ve worn Your name
Show me the love I say I believe

Oh Help me to lay it down
Oh Lord I lay it down

My heart begins it’s own playlist of all the hurt, shame, and feelings of not being good enough that are again hiding in me, and the intentions I held of letting them go. And then I feel that love, the love I say I believe in, pour over me. I feel the warmth, I feel the peace flow through me.

Be lifted high as my Kingdom’s fall
Once and for all, once and for all

There is victory in my Saviors loss
And In the crimson flowing from the cross
Pour over me, pour over me yes

I am renewed with hope. And the courage to let go. And victory in the belief that as I let go of my Mindy-made kingdoms and all the burned out ashes of hurt and disappointment that God doesn’t wish for me, and as I honor God, I will be renewed. I will be better. I will be closer to whole.

Oh let this be where I die
My lord with thee crucified
Be lifted high as my Kingdom’s fall
Once and for all, once and for all

So, I lay it down, Lord. I lay it all down, once and for all, I lay it all down.

Oh Lord I lay it down
Oh Lord I lay it down
Help me to lay it down
Oh Lord I lay it down

And I laid it down.

Oh, Beloved One, what is it in your heart that you need to lay down? Do you know that God is right there, waiting for you to reach out to him, to pour his healing love over you as you let go?

Psalm 55:22, “Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.”

So, God’s Beloved One, cast your burden upon the Lord. Lay your hurt, disappointment, guilty pleasure, whatever your kingdom is that you need to let fall, lay it down at Jesus’ feet. Ask God, our Heavenly Father, who knows you and loves you better than anyone else, to take it from you.

And then let it go. Believe in his perfect love and the crimson at the cross, and let it pour over you, and let the hurt go. God did not intend for you to live in that hurt. Let the kingdom fall. Let the kingdom fall, Beloved, you do not need it anymore. Let it fall. Once and for all.

Psalm 139:13-14 For it was you who created my inward parts;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I will praise you
because I have been remarkably and wondrously made.
Your works are wondrous,
and I know this very well.

1 Peter 5:7, “casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”

He cares for you. Let your kingdom fall. Once and for all.

I love you with all of God’s love within me ~ Mindy ❤

  1. Thank you for this reminder through your song that it is okay to let it go! Some Christians believe we can become perfect in the sense that we no longer have imperfections, but the only way to believe that is to redefine what we refuse to let go as something less than it is, or reject the words in 1 John 1:8, “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us”. Continue to maintain you health and safety!

  2. Elizabeth, thank you so much for your thoughts – yes, I agree. We do still have imperfections, even as Christians, as long as we are on this earth. Yes, 1 John 1:8 says it perfectly. This is why we look so forward to Heaven <3. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Many blessings and good health to you too!

  3. Love this!! My primary goal with God lately has been reconnecting with him, so I can hear his voice clearer and being able to distinguish between my own voice versus his.
